About Julie Bonner, MD

Hi, my name is Julie Bonner, M.D.

Hi, my name is Julie Bonner. I am relatively new to the Santa Cruz area. I have had a private practice in Palo Alto for many years, and have recently moved to the area, and am hoping to build a practice here.

I would like to share a little about myself first. I grew up in the Bay Area. I did my undergraduate work at U.C. San Diego where I earned a B.S in neuroscience. Through continued love of learning about the brain and a very strong wish to help others, I pursued medical school in Chicago, Il. I graduated from Chicago Medical School in 2001 and earned an M.D. degree.

After medical school in Chicago, I was headed back to California. I completed my four year psychiatry residency program at Stanford University. Having been very grateful to have this opportunity to study at Stanford, I stayed at Stanford after residency to complete a 3 year specialty training fellowship in mood disorders. I also had the pleasure, while at Stanford, of teaching the psychopharmacology course to the Stanford medical students.

I have been in private practice since 2008, and have actively been treating patients since 2001. My style of working with patients is a very collaborative approach. I believe strongly in the autonomy of every patient, as well as, strongly believe in my responsibility to provide the absolute best psychiatric care possible.

Although my speciality is in evaluating for correct diagnosis and psychopharmacology, I do provide some psychotherapy with appropriate patients. Most of my psychotherapy training has been in psychodynamic psychotherapy and cognitive behavior therapy. I wish you all the best on your path to happiness.
